I purchased this book years ago for my daughter who is now a high school pitcher and hopes to play college and pro. We both learned alot about the athleticism and mechanics of pitching. It also includes great information about nutrition and warm-ups. Thanks Lisa for a great book chockful of valuable information.
I expected more from a former mens' pitcher and coach, than coverage only of the womens' game. I've read many a book on softball pitching, and most of them tend to be promotions for the "cover girl." At least this one gave a little more. Maybe it was the promo on it that misled me. My disappointments deal with not being able to transfer much of this into mens' fastpitch. There are subtle and not so subtle differences in the games, and there are other pitches in the repertoire with men, as well as differences in the movements that this didn't capture. Either way, I didn't get what I was looking for. But you don't teach men the way you teach women.
The Windmill Pitcher is a great book for any coach, player, and parent. I've been around the game all my life and seen many good pitchers. I highly recommend this for parents of pitchers. It is well written with execptional illustrations of the correct mechanics for the windmall pitcher. The great pitchers have solid mechanics. This is a must have for fastpitch softball.
Illustrations are not clear enough for a beginner to understand. I pitched fastpitch for over 35 years and I had trouble understanding what was being taught.Overall, I was not too impressed with the book. I probably won't use it as a reference for my pitching school.
It has many different ways and diagrams to show and describe pitching. Review: The Windmill PitcherIn the book, The Windmill Pitcher, it talks about how to play softball, and different ways to pitch. It tells you what to do for ball control, and what you need to do to improve your pitching mechanics. This book has the best description of how to pitch, and also different ways to pitch. If pitchers and coaches have questions about coaching, or pitching they can refer to this book. There are many different ways to pitch in fast pitch softball, such as; Slingshot, Single Pump, and Double Pump. I would recommend this book to pitchers and coaches that LOVE softball.
